What inspired this personal project?
I was inspired by the word “transcendence” to go beyond or surpass the limits of…In part, I was fascinated by religious iconography in Catholicism. Images of worship and veneration have always surrounded or been in the background of my childhood. For this project, I wanted to capture a similar essence.
I photographed a diversity of couples. It was essential to create a new narrative around “spirituality” and “religion.” Where transcendence was inclusive and inherent through intimacy, beauty, desire, and love.
How did you arrive at photography?
I arrived at photography when I found a treasure of my childhood photographs in my Dad's attic. I was incredibly shocked that these photographs were in this hot attic, collecting dust. From that moment, I garnered a deep appreciation for photography. It was fascinating how old photos could rush in a wave of memories and stories of the past. Significant moments that could only reappear in memory from a single photograph.
Later on, I was motivated to pick up a camera by looking at fashion magazines and the work of fashion photographers. It never dawned on me that photography was not just a tool for documenting real life but also a tool for creative freedom. The beauty and desire of fashion photography made me feel like I could create anything.
